October 2017
How does one open a new chapter of life’s
story? Often, we do not see the closing
paragraph before we turn the page to find white space and a new number
unfolding the next strokes. Some of
those chapters open with a flurry as this one in my life has! I have been invited to join Samaritan’s Purse
World Medical Mission as a volunteer on their Medical/Surgical team going to
Memorial Christian Hospital in Malumghat, Bangladesh. I am so very excited to have this chance to
share with each of you, though I do wish that time and distance allowed me to
pull up a comfy chair, pour a cup of coffee and just spend some time talking
face to face.
At this moment thousands, upon thousands of
refugees are fleeing the violence occurring along the border of Myanmar. Many of these refugees are arriving in
Bangladesh sick, weak, and often with traumatic injuries from not only the
travel but the effects of war. The
hospital is being stretched greatly and their need for relief including extra
hands to carry the load of medical/surgical care for these patients is evident. God is once again opening the door for me to
use my nursing skills and background to be His hands and feet to a world that
is dying to know Him in His love and compassion for them in a very real and
tangible way.
This trip also holds a sweet joy for me, I
will be traveling with Carmen Marflack, CRNA,who took me on my very first
mission trip to Haiti all those many years ago when I was just finishing High
school and contemplating a career in Nursing.
It was she who had a heart to share with me the joys of serving Christ
in the Nursing field and once again our God is allowing us to serve together in
what will hopefully be the first of many more places, more on that later. I will be leaving on October 27th
and returning on November 17th.
Please Pray… For God’s grace and protection; For provisions including
the safe conduct of staff and medically needed supplies along with Financial means
for our travel and transport of those supplies; For restful travel (as funny as
that sounds, it is possible) we will be working long, difficult hours and when
you arrive tired it is that much harder. For wisdom in our patient care and
eyes that see physical needs with God’s unfailing love and compassion; but Above
all that Christ is clearly seen and glorified by all
through our actions and interactions.
I know that with each letter I have sent
through the years you have heard my cries to be lifted up before the Throne of
God in prayer and dear ones that it is once again what I long for most because
it is the need I have most.
Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him,
On those who hope for His lovingkindness,
To deliver their soul from death
And to keep them alive in famine.
Our soul waits for the Lord;
He is our help and our shield.
For our heart rejoices in Him,
Because we trust in His holy name.
Let Your lovingkindness, O Lord, be upon us,
According as we have hoped in You.
On those who hope for His lovingkindness,
To deliver their soul from death
And to keep them alive in famine.
Our soul waits for the Lord;
He is our help and our shield.
For our heart rejoices in Him,
Because we trust in His holy name.
Let Your lovingkindness, O Lord, be upon us,
According as we have hoped in You.
